How to Identify:

Primary Test: Once considered an important diamond imitation, synthetic rutile has been around the market for decades. The main identifier is that the double refraction is so strong that the doubling of facet junctions is unlike anything else out there. For a colorless gemstone used to imitate diamond, the extreme doubling of the facet junctions should make this a very easy separation from diamond or any of the other diamond simulates.

Secondary Tests: None needed.

Repair and Setting: As a true lab grown rutile the same care should be taken as with natural rutile. Should be removed before any heat is applied. Cleaning in ultrasonic should not affect this lab created rutile as long as extreme heat is avoided.
