Synthethic: Hydrothermal
Identification Tools Required: Magnification.
How to Identify:
Primary Test: As with all hydrothermal synthetic to date, with the exception of quartz, magnification is the primary tool to identify the synthetic. The internal growth structure can be found in virtually all of the hydrothermal synthetics. In the case of sapphire the complete lack of any inclusions and the classic hydrothermal growth pattern makes for an easy identification of this very fine lab created gemstone.
Secondary Tests: None needed.
Repair and Setting: Based on this being a true synthetic sapphire no special care is required other than would be used with a natural sapphire. Not recommended for torch heating, but cleaning in ultrasonic should not be a problem.
