Created Black Opal

synthetic black opal

Synthetic: Process Unknown

Identification Tools Required: Magnification

How to Identify:

Primary Test: This is an easy separation from natural black opal due to the uniformity of the color structure. While the structure varies slightly across the stone, the overall color formation is far too uniform in both design and color hue and tone to be considered natural.

Secondary Tests: None needed

Repair and Setting: As a true lab created opal the same care should be taken as would be with a natural opal. No heat, no ultrasonic and no cleaners.
